First novel about Southern California region ever published. Jackson (a friend of Harriet Beecher Stowe) hoped that her ethical novel about the Indians of Southern California would have the same impact as Uncle Tom's Cabin. Instead the novel was received in California as a highly acclaimed romance novel in 1884.
This 1887 edition is in very good condition. There are no tears on the pages, but a tiny knick out of the top and some evidence of wear on the top and bottom of the spine.
