The egg stands 4 inches high and 2.25 inches across the opened gold rim. The depth of the bottom is 1 inch and the inside height of the top is 1.5 inches.  The clasp is a gold fan.  I have heard that it could be for jewelry or pills.  There are no markings indicating the maker.
